Nokia’s Ovi Mail reaches one million milestone

Figure with envelope

Nokia today celebrated reaching the one million milestone mark for its Ovi Mail service , thanks to rapid take-up in developing countries.

The service has enjoyed particular popularity in India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia and South Africa since its launch in December last year, according to Nokia.

The mail service, available in 20 languages across more than 180 countries, is primed for on-device set-up, according to Nokia, making it ideal for countries where people have yet to get connected to the net and set up an email account using a PC.

"More than just reaching a company milestone, this proves to us that there is a real appetite in the developing world for these types of tailored services," said Tom Furlong, Nokia's head of consumer messaging, in a statement.

"For first-time email users, Ovi Mail provides a digital identity and we are thrilled by its rapidly rising adoption rate."
