RIM ranked the fastest growing company
By Nicole Kobie,
BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM) is the company to watch, according to a new ranking by Fortune Magazine.
The Canadian smartphone firm was ranked first in a list of the fastest growing firms around the world. Fortune cited the success of the BlackBerry Curve in the US, noting RIM had held off challengers like the Apple iPhone to keep a 74 per cent share of the business smartphone market.
And with smartphone sales outpacing other handsets, RIM's growth looks set to continue.
Tech firm growth
Tech firms have often been placed highly in the list. Yahoo topped it in 2005, dropping to second in 2006, while Apple ranked sixth in 2007.
This year, the top four were tech firms. After RIM, Fortune picked chipmaker Sigma, Chinese website Soho, and online exchange Ebix. Apple was put in 39th place, Amazon.com ranked 52nd, and Google came in at number 68.
The top 10 tech firms by growth are:
1) Research In Motion
2) Sigma Designs
3) Sohu.com
4) Ebix
5) Millicom International Cellular
6) Open Text
7) Pegasystems
8) Ansys
9) Apple
10) AsiaInfo
