Samsung unveils TouchWiz widget SDK
By Maggie Holland,
Samsung has opened up its doors to developers by launching a software development kit (SDK) that will enable them to create new widgets for handsets running the TouchWiz interface.
To mark the arrival of the SDK, which is built on the open source Eclipse platform, the company plans to host a developer camp where innovators can strut their development stuff and be in with a chance of winning $20,000.
“Samsung fully recognises the challenges that developers face to develop and market mobile applications to consumers and businesses,” said Omar Khan, senior vice president of strategy and product management, for Samsung Telecommunications America, in a statement.
“The Samsung Mobile Innovator programme is a global programme focused on giving developers the tools and the support that they need to develop and market widgets for
Samsung’s lineup of TouchWiz-based devices and applications for different Samsung phones.”
Samsung’s Widget Developer Camp 2009 will take place at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco from 11-13 September. The application process is now open and will close on 31 August, with those accepted being notified on 2 September.
