Microsoft’s exchange server 2010 release candidate (RC) is now available to download from the TechNet website.

The launch will see 10 million people testing the RC, according to a post on the Microsoft exchange team blog. The RC features a new management pack, a remote connectivity analyser and a load generator.

Michael Atalla, group product manager for exchange, said in the post: “If Exchange were a standalone business, it would be the ninth largest software company in the world."

The post also claimed that Exchange had annual revenues of almost $2 billion (£1.2 billion) and a market share of 65 per cent.

The RC is supported by both Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 and can run alongside previous versions of Exchange – Exchange Server 2007 or 2003.

Although an official date for the final version is not confirmed, Microsoft said it would arrive later this year.
