Apple has confirmed it will be launching its latest operating system this Friday.

Snow Leopard, otherwise known as the Mac OS X v10.6, was rumoured to be released on 28 August after it appeared briefly on Apple's website but the company refused to confirm it.

Now Apple has released a statement saying this is definitely the date for the eagerly anticipated OS.

It will be available as an upgrade from the Leopard OS for $29 (17.59) with pre-orders being taken from today.
