Stratus launches new line of 'ftServers'
By Jennifer Scott,
Stratus Technologies is bringing a new line of ftServers to the market, it announced today.
Using Intel’s Xeon 5500 processors, the three new models - ftServer 2600, 4500 and 6300 – are one and two socket servers featuring quad-core processing and eight pairs of 2.5” internal SAS disks for up to 8TB of physical storage.
Stratus claimed that the products offer “99.9999 per cent availability” as applications on the servers run without software modification or failover scripting. If it achieves this level, it could offer massive benefits to companies by cutting out costs of unplanned downtime and data loss.
It also features QuickPath Interconnect Technology (QPI) for scalability, an integrated virtual technician model to help with management and offers up to 96GB of memory.
The line is available from today with support for Windows, including 32 and 64 bit Windows Server 2008. The company will release systems compatible with Linux and VMware later in the year.
