Spectra Logic adds deduplication to tape backup

Spectra Logic is introducing deduplication abilities to its tape backup products.

Its nTier Deduplication solution includes remote site replication of data and migration to tape, allowing for a more efficient backup process - especially in tiered environments across multiple sites.

The product is aimed at small to medium sized businesses with the ability to scale up to 60TB.

Molly Rector, Spectra’s vice president of product management and marketing, said in a statement: “As we developed nTier Deduplication, we collected customer feedback and recognised an opportunity to streamline data replication to tape.”

“Spectra Logic’s nTier Deduplication solution enables customers to simplify and optimise their tiered storage environments across multiple sites.”

The deduplication can achieve speeds of up to 900Mbps and is compatible with most major player backup software applications including Symantec Backup Exec and NetBackup, CommVault Simpana and HP Data Protector.

nTier Deduplication is available now with prices starting at $23,500 (£14,470) for an nTier500 v80 Deduplication appliance.
