Google now translates documents in 42 languages

Google Doc users can now translate documents straight from its word processor.

By Asavin Wattanajantra, 28 Aug 2009 at 10:44

Google Docs now has added a new feature that allows users to translate documents into 42 different languages right inside the Google Docs word processor.

To do this in Google Docs, click on the ‘Tools’ menu, select ‘Translate Document’ and choose the language you want to translate it into.

Google released a translator toolkit in June, but this was aimed more at supporting human translators who wanted help with their work.

Google has already put the technology in products like Gmail, and also allows web pages to be translated to different languages through a browser.

I will not use this feature for my business documents, since machine translation's quality is very very poor. I stick to my paid translation service (I use OneHourTranslation.com) to ensure only certified (and human!) professional translators are taking care of the sensitive texts I'm sending to my clients...
