Hitachi Data Systems is making itself known in the mid-tier market with the launch of two new network attached storage (NAS) products.

The Hitachi NAS 3080 and 3090 use the company’s new storage platform – powered by BlueArc – to implement Intelligent File Tiering, enabling migration between high-cost and low-cost storage to better utilise the capacity available.

The 3080 can include up to one petabyte of storage, while the 3090 goes up to two petabytes. With the new platform, IOPS per node can reach 100,000.

Mark Peters, senior analyst for the Enterprise Strategy Group, said in a statement: “Although packaged for mid-range users, Hitachi Data Systems’ new 3080 and 3090 NAS offerings feature functionality more usually associated with enterprise class systems.”

The products are compatible with Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint and Oracle when used in VMware vSphere environments.

It can also be used by application administrators for primary iSCSI and secondary backup, restore, archiving and disaster recovery storage.

Both products are available immediately through the company or channel partners.
