Pliant unveils super speedy SSD for enterprise
By Nicole Kobie,
Pliant Technology has unveiled its fast new Lightning Enterprise Flash Drives, which it claims are as much as four times as fast as existing flash storage.
The Lightning lineup is two to four times as fast and 10 times as reliable than current solid state drives (SSDs) on the market, achieved with an integrated software architecture and proprietary ASIC controller, according to Pliant.
Pliant said the Lightning drives are the first-storage devices to use a cache-less design, which will keep data safe even if power is cut and offer consistent performance.
The Lightning lineup includes two models, the 2.5-inch LB and 3.5-inch LS, offering input/output per second (IOPs) of 120,000 and 160,000, and capacities of 150GB and 300GB respectively. They offer read/write speeds of 420/220MB/sec and 525/240MB/sec and work with Serial Attached SCSI storage and server systems.
“The exceptional performance and reliability features of Lightning EFDs allow IT managers to address the most significant challenges they’re facing today, namely, keeping up with continually increasing storage demands with fixed budgets, limited data centre floor space and the ever growing cost of power,” said Amyl Ahola, chief executive of Pliant Technology, in a statement.
The Pliant Lightning LS300, Lightning LS150 and Lightning LB150 will be available via the channel starting this month.
