Intel vice president to leave amid 'sweeping' changes
By Dave Stevenson,
Pat Gelsinger, a long-time executive at Intel, is moving to EMC, according to reports.
Gelsinger, a senior vice president at the chip giant, is one of Intel's longest-serving executives.
He joined the company in 1979, and among other coups on his CV, was the design manager and chief architect of the 486 processor. In his 30 years at the company, he progressed to become co-general manager of Intel's digital enterprise group. According to Intel, the group accounts for more than half of Intel's revenue.
Citing an unnamed EMC spokesperson, PC World claimed Gelsinger will move to EMC as president of the company's information infrastructure product portfolio.
EMC could not be reached for comment, but an Intel spokesperson told IT PRO “Ee do not comment on rumour and speculation”, and declined to comment further.
If Gelsinger does move to EMC, it's possible he won't be the only executive that moves at Intel in the next few days. The New York Times published an article this morning claiming Intel would announce a “sweeping management change” today.
Citing anonymous sources, the report said Sean Maloney, head of sales and marketing at Intel, will take on a “larger role”, and that Dadi Perlmutter, who manages Intel's laptop processors, will take take over management of all chip divisions.
