HTC Hero

HTC has released a new firmware update for its Google Android-based Hero handset.

The 2.73.405.5 ROM update is now available on its UK website following its roll out across Europe.

The main aim of the update is to speed up the phone’s performance, but it also includes a new feature enabling the user to touch the screen to focus on a particular area when taking a photo.

The installation should take about 10 minutes, with the update being downloaded from HTC's website. However, it is only compatible with Microsoft operating systems.

HTC TOUCH not HERO

HTC HERO runs android operating system. HTC Touch according to the htc website is to get a microsoft update. A small mistake. HTC Hero has been everywhere on the Internet. But there is also the htc touch. The Hero is awesome. I love it. But a bit laggy so I was hoping the update was for the hero.

Hero Update

The Hero update seems to work OK! but you can't update Orange phones yet unless you go to http://android.modaco.com/ and follow their instructions. Don't forget to make a backup of your original ROM although the site probably has one for download. Also it is worth having a microSD reader to plug the SD card straight into your PC for copying the files across - my phone/PC usb link stopped working for some reason! - If it is anything like the unbranding of a Nokia N95 from Orange to just Nokia, then this should be good news.
