Super Talent unveils new SSD RAID devices

Super Talent has announced three new ranges of SSD RAID devices.

All are due for release later this year.

The PCI Express RAIDDrive SSDs are designed to increase bandwidth by replacing the SATA bus and the company claimed it supports more than ten times the bandwidth of the SATA II at 4Gbps.

The three ranges are aimed at different market areas. The RAIDDrive ES, available in capacities of up to 1TB, is designed for the enterprise server for use in a range of scenarios including business intelligence or virtualisation applications. It can be configured as either RAID 0 or RAID 5 before it is sent out and fits into a 3U rack chassis.

There is also a RAIDDrive WS for workstation users also offering up to 1TB capacity as well as the RAIDDrive GS with 2TB of capacity designed for gamers to “supercharge their IO subsystem.”

Super Talent claimed that its RAIDDrives can support read speeds of 1.4Gbps and has 1Gb of DRAM cache inside enabling write speeds of up to 1.2Gbps.

CH Lee, chief operating officer of Super Talent, said in a statement: “RAIDDrive SSDs are a quantum leap ahead of existing SSDs in sequential transfer speeds... [It] shatters previous storage system bottlenecks and sets a new standard in performance.”

The products will start shipping in early next month with OEM pricing for the 1TB RAIDDrive GS at $4,999 (£3,022).
