Microsoft free antivirus just weeks away
By Asavin Wattanajantra,
Microsoft will release the full version of its free antivirus software Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), formerly code-named Morro, in the “coming weeks”.
According to IT PRO's sister site PC Pro, an email sent to beta testers confirmed the upcoming release, encouraged them to upgrade to that version, and thanked them for assistance.
MSE is a replacement for previous subscription-based service Live OneCare, and is described as offering ‘comprehensive’ protection from malware such as viruses, spyware, rootkits and Trojans.
MSE will be competing with security vendors like Symantec, McAfee and Trend Micro, as well as AVG’s free security solution.
Microsoft had not responded to our request for comment about the imminent release at the time of publication.
