The tech battle between industry giants Apple and Microsoft could be about to hot up if leaked pictures of a new tablet-style device from the latter are anything to go by.

Gadget website Gizmodo showed pictures of the device, dubbed the ‘Courier’. It said that it was now at a ‘late prototype’ stage, where Microsoft was “developing the user experience” and showing design concepts.

The Courier is believed to feature dual 7in screens that are multitouch but can also be used for writing and drawing with a stylus. They are connected with a hinge and possess a single hold button.

Apple has been widely rumoured to be gearing up to release a device that looks like oversized iPod Touch, whereas Microsoft's device takes booklet form.

Microsoft had not responded to our request for comment at the time of publication.

The video below, courtesy of Gizmodo, shows off some of the features thought to be included in the tablet.
