The net worth of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has fallen by $7 billion, but he is still America’s richest man for the 16th year running, according to a poll.

The annual Forbes ranking of the 400 richest people in America said that sluggish Microsoft shares and declining outside investments pushed his net worth down billion. But he’s not exactly on the breadline, with his net worth still shown as $50 billion.

That's $10 billion more than business investor Warren Buffett in second and Oracle founder Larry Ellison in third, ‘only’ worth $27 billion.

Gates did donate $3.8 billion in personal contributions, $500 million more than in 2008.

Other technology figures in the rich list were Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page in joint 11th, worth $15.3 billion.

Michael Dell was in 13th position ($14.5 billion), followed closely behind by Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer, who was worth $13.3 billion.

Worth?

Worth is not the correct word when referring to the super rich, is Gates giving more money to his eugenics charities actually a good thing?
