Networking company Brocade may be the next firm to be swooped up by one of the tech big guns, if reports prove to be true.

An article in the Wall Street Journal has claimed the company has subtly put itself on the market, citing “people familiar with the matter” as sources.

The sources also claimed that both HP and Oracle could be in the running for the company which last year made revenues of nearly $1.5 billion.

Brocade is a leader in the networking market known for its Storage Area Networks (SANs), Fibre Channel technology and switches.

In the past few months, it has teamed up with companies such as Dell, IBM and NetApp to launch co-developed products, but this is the first news of a possible all-out sale.

IT PRO contacted Brocade but the company had not responded to our request for comment at the time of publication.
