Iomega launches new NAS server for SMBs
By Jennifer Scott,
Iomega has beefed up its last offering and released the next generation of the ix2 NAS server, the Iomega StorCenter ix2-200.
Aimed at the small and medium sized business (SMB) or home user market, the new dual bay NAS server is a green, power efficient device, using 5900RPM drives to decrease the amount of heat generated.
It has a low price tag to go along with its low heat generation, costing $269.99 for 1TB, $369.99 for 2TB and $699.99 for the 4TB version.
The ix2-200 also boasts a number of other features, including iSCSI block-level access, Windows Active Directory support, RAID 1 configuration and support for Mac’s Time Machine backup tool.
Now part of EMC, Iomega has allowed enterprise style tech to enter into the device but it hopes to keep consumers happy with built in torrent support for file sharing and DLNA and UPnP AV Media Server support, enabling video and music streaming.
The 1TB and 2TB versions are available now and the 4TB will be out later this month.
