Oracle updates BI, middleware at OpenWorld

Oracle is this week holding its customer and developer event OpenWorld and has made a lot of announcements, including the release of the latest version of its middleware product and business intelligence tools.

The firm announced the 'planned future releases' of Oracle JDeveloper 11g, Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) 11g, Oracle WebLogic Suite 11g, Oracle SOA Suite 11g and Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g, components of Oracle Fusion Middleware.

Pitched at developers looking to build rich, enterprise applications, the release will include new user interface (UI) components, including Carousel , which it claims has a look and feel rather similar to iTunes and Java and SOA suites.

Another planned release, Oracle WebCenter Suite, finds itself in the web 2.0 sphere and will let developers build, deploy and evolve next-generation composite applications and portals.

Fusion Middleware

The firm also showed off the latest version of its business intelligence tool Fusion Middleware 11g, and demonstrated some of the suite's soon to be released features including Oracle Enterprise Content Management Suite, Oracle Tuxedo, Oracle Business Process Management, and Oracle Data Integration.

“Oracle is number one in middleware,” said Hasan Rizvi, senior vice president, Oracle Fusion Middleware product development, in a statement. “The launch of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g sets new standards for integration and innovation by providing the industry’s most complete, integrated, hot-pluggable and best-of-breed middleware suite."

He added: "With the planned enhancements, more than 90,000 current customers will be able to benefit from the increased performance and centralised management of a modern infrastructure, enabling them to drive down costs, improve efficiency and differentiate their organisations from competitors through unrivalled innovation."

Applications

Oracle also announced a new point release of its Application Integration Architecture (Release 2.5), promising a library of more than 1,000 enterprise services and 100 enterprise objects.

The company said that it would help firms improve process integration and speed up the delivery of enterprise applications.

“Oracle Application Integration Release 2.5 is the most extensive release yet and reinforces our unwavering commitment to reducing the cost of integration for our customers through the Oracle Application Integration Architecture,” said Oracle Vice President of application development and product strategy for AIA Jose Lazares, in a statement.
