SGI announces new NAS device
By Jennifer Scott,
SGI has announced the release of a new NAS device to help manage shared data environments.
The Infinite Storage NAS includes tools for virtualisation, management and data protection.
Its key feature is the Cluster Namespace technology, which is designed to enable a much higher level of scalability for customers with data rebalancing and read caching.
Rod Evans, the regional vice president of SGI in Northern Europe, told IT PRO that the little guys are getting a lot more attention at this show for their new products thanks to some notable absentees.
“This show has been interesting as some of the traditional vendors such as EMC and HPare not here," he said. "It means people are more willing to look at companies they may not have looked at before and our new NAS product has been getting a lot of interest.”
However, SGI is not short on well-known customers. In addition to large financial institutions it cannot name the company is a major supplier to Amazon, has recently signed a contract to provide storage for Spotify and has confirmed a major deal with the Institute for Cancer Research.
“We go from focused hard science to much cooler technology and this which our customers seem to like,” he said.
The new NAS product will be available in the UK from December.
