As part of its new campaign to achieve borderless network architecture, Cisco has announced the launch of a new router series, the ISR G2.

The routers - Cisco 3900, Cisco 2900 and Cisco 1900 - are designed for businesses with multiple branches to deliver mutually used applications on demand.

They are part of a five-phase plan to integrate routing, switching, wireless and security technologies from the company in what it calls a more ”tightly integrated networking infrastructure.”

Brett Galloway, senior vice president for Cisco’s Wireless, Security and Routing Technology Group, said in a statement: “Our ISR G2 router line significantly increases our customers ability to capitalise on these key business and technology trends. Our core networking business remains as strategic and as vitally important to us, as it does to those we serve.”

Cisco claims that the ISR G2 series offers as much as five times the performance of the previous model as well as large cost savings. It includes video ready architecture and virtualisation technology.

Klaus-Peter Bruns, vice chairman of Fiducia IT AG, which has been using the routers, said in a statement: “Streamlining our branch operations has been a major priority for Fiducia IT AG, as our customers demand increasingly sophisticated capabilities to be delivered via the network. The Integrated Services Router Generation 2 helps us meet this objective.”
