Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 unveiled with Android
By Nicole Kobie,
Sony Ericsson is hoping Google's Android operating system can help reverse its failing fortunes, as today it unveiled the Xperia X10 handset.
Available in the first half of next year alongside other new phones, the Xperia X10 runs on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and features what Sony Ericsson claims is a ground-breaking new user experience built on top of the Android Donut operating system.
The entertainment-focused handset features integrated social networking sites and app stores, including Android Marketplace,
The X10 includes an application called Timescape that helps manage feeds from your Facebook, Twitter, photos, emails and texts in one place. Another, called Mediascape, organises photos, video and content from your websites, YouTube and the phone itself.
Sony Ericsson has added some intelligence into the mix, as well, claiming the X10 has "intelligence capabilities" in both those apps, to help recognise connections between your contacts and content, and even offers facial recognition for tagging pictures.
The touchscreen X10 will come in white or black, and feature an 8.1 megapixel camera with geotagging, video recording, built-in media player, Bluetooth stereo, and uses the WebKit browser and supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. The X10 also includes A-GPS and comes with Google Maps pre-loaded.

Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson said in a statement: “The Xperia X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximises choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience."
