EMC incorporates Nehalem to improve efficiency

Intel’s Nehalem chips are to be used in EMC’s Atmos range from next year to improve efficiency.

Intel and EMC are teaming up to improve efficiency on EMC’s Atmos storage product line.

The EMC platform will be shipping with Intel’s Nehalem chipset by the second half of this year, which the companies claim will increase power efficiency.

There will also be a step up in power management as disks not in use can be turned off to reduce both power consumption and costs.

These solutions will work across both the hardware and software forms of Atmos, aimed at large scale deployments.

Atmos is EMC’s flagship storage product and the company announced earlier this year that it was releasing a cloud storage version via the internet to extend the product line.

Neither EMC nor Intel had responded to our request for comment at the time of publication.
