Apple App Store

Apple today announced that there are now more than 100,000 apps available via its App Store.

By far the largest of its kind, the App Store is available in 77 countries with 20 categories to choose from.

“The App Store, now with over 100,000 applications available, is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, in a statement.

“The iPhone SDK created the first great platform for mobile applications and our customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating.”

The store recently broke its record for downloads, announcing earlier this year that it had passed the two billion download milestone.

However, it does have a controversial app approval process with many developers complaining of long waits to get their apps approved.
