Microsoft will release six security bulletins for this month’s Patch Tuesday, with three rated ‘critical’ - but newly-launched Windows 7 has escaped this time.

The three critical bulletins involve Windows Vista, XP, and various versions of Windows Server, but not Windows 7.

Last month, Windows 7 needed a patch, even though it wasn't yet out on general release.

The bulletins include flaws that are severe enough that they could allow a hacker to take control of an affected system and run code. There is also one bulletin for Windows rated ‘important’ which could result in a Denial of Service.

The other two important bulletins involve Microsoft Office and could result in remote code execution.

Lumension's senior vice president Andrew Clarke claimed that many IT departments were still working through the large number of patches from last month.

“Three of the patches appear to be updates to or re-releases of patches that were issued last month including Live Communications Server 2005 and Office Communications Server 2007,” he said in a statement.

Clarke also said there were issues around Windows Server Update Services and the running Microsoft Office Access Runtime 2003.
