Online retailer Play.com has suffered technical problems, with reports of multiple emails sent to the wrong customers.

Customers received emails from Play.com reporting the dispatch of orders they didn't place, and when opened revealed names and addresses of other Play.com customers.

According to the BBC, Play.com customer Simon Hurley from Clevedon near Bristol received more than 80 emails, with each email having another customer’s name as well their order details.

Fortunately the emails did not contain any financial details, such as credit card numbers.

In a statement, Play.com said that its customers were contacted, and that the cause of the incident was identified and resolved.

The online retailer said: “We take these matters very seriously and following our investigation on how this incident occurred in the first place, we’ve taken the relevant steps to prevent it happening in the future.”
