The Android-running Sony Ericsson X10 is tipped for an early 2010 release date.

Sony Ericsson's Android-based Xperia X10 might be released sooner than we thought if a holding page on its website is to be believed.

Users can now sign up to register interest to keep up to speed with the exact launch date, which is currently listed as February, but was tipped as a wider window of the first quarter of 2010 when the phone was unveiled earlier this month.

The X10's user interface has been built on top of the Android Donut operating system. That openness, together with a 4in (480x854 pixels) scratch resistant WVGA screen and beefy multimedia features including an 8.1 megapixel camera, mean the phone can "truly humanise the way people interact with their phones," according to Sony Ericsson.

“The Xperia X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximises choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience," claimed Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson, in a statement at the launch.

"The reaction from our global operator partners to the Xperia X10 has been extremely positive and we will be rolling out across the world including Japan from the first half of 2010.”
