Toshiba Portégé R600 Price: £1282 ex. VAT

The Toshiba Portégé R600 has been around for a good year now, and we’re told by Toshiba, is expected to be around for another so we’re still happy to recommend it.

It’s an ultra-portable machine, that’s pretty much the sexiest machine that Toshiba produces. It weighs just 1.2Kg and offers a 12.1in 1,280 x 800 display, integrated 3G, and optical drive.

It’s powered by a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo US9400 and 3GB of RAM – so no slouch for office applications either and with Intel vPro tech for remote management, your IT department will love it as much as you do. toshiba r600

HP ProBook 4510 Price: £497 ex. VAT

Ultra-portables and high design are all very well and good, but if it’s good old fashioned value for money you're after you could do a lot worse than picking up an HP ProBook.

HP has redesigned its standard business machine and these are smart to look at.

In this review model, you get a decent Core 2 Dup processor and a large 15.6in display, and while the resolution is average it helps to keep the cost down. With a range of HP software tools, and a price that comes in under £500 ex. VAT, this is a very practical choice for the business user. hp probook 4510

Interesting list but a bit dated now

This page could use a refresh by including some of the newer and latest laptop models. You can also get more current pricing by doing an online search on laptops and you'll notice that you can get some better prices when you shop around in more than one retailer. I'd also like to have seen some laptop recommendations for the 'toughbook' category.
