Drobo range

Data Robotics has released two more devices to add to its Drobo range.

With one aimed at the small and medium-sized business (SMB) market and the other at professional and home users the two products – DroboElite and Drobo S respectively – bring the family of storage devices up to four.

During a meeting with Data Robotics Geoff Barrall, chief executive and founder of the company, told IT PRO: “We are so excited to be bringing this range out after the popularity of the first two Drobos. They just seem to be flying off the shelves… even during the current climate.”

The DroboElite for SMBs is an iSCSI SAN storage device and claims to have the fastest performance of any Drobo product – 150 times its predecessor.

It is VMware-ready with the capability of hosting up to 225 smart volumes using Data Robotics’ thin provisioning technology.

The device starts at $3,499 and goes up to $5,899 to include the best possible configuration of 16TB or eight 2TB drives.

The Drobo S is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux and offers an extra bay drive, taking it up to five. It introduces eSATA connections as well as improved Firewire 800 throughput and can protect against two drive failures.

The device starts at $799 and goes up to $1,799 to include the full scalability of 10TB.
