Business communications

BP has decided to outsource its global communications to T-Systems – the business division of Deutsche Telekom.

The five-year deal will see T-Systems provide the telecommunications for the oil colossus with Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEN Group) assisting in the management of voice and audio visual services.

The deal is part of a huge cost-cutting push by BP, which announced earlier this year that it planned to shave £1 billion from its overheads after a major fall in profits.

Dana Deasy, chief information officer of the BT group, said in a statement: “[The deal] will give BP a significant opportunity to reduce complexity and lower our overall cost base.”

The multi-sourcing model with the two companies is a new venture for T-Systems and the SEN Group, but one both companies are positive will result in better communications for BP and future deals.

Mark Stone, chief executive and chairman of the SEN Group, said in a statement: “This agreement heralds a new era of industry collaboration and highlights the need to establish world-class partnerships to meet the objectives of Global organisations such as BP.”
