Acer claims it will release first Chrome OS notebook
By Jennifer Scott,
Acer claims it will be the first vendor to bring a notebook to market featuring Google’s Chrome operating system.
DigiTimes reported that the company had been developing the product this year and planned on releasing in the second half of 2010, based on an interview with Acer's chairman JT Wang.
Wang did not confirm this but said he was confident that his company would take the crown of “the first vendor to launch a Chrome-based netbook” in 2010.
IT PRO contacted a UK spokesperson from Acer to confirm any future plans but they said they were unable to comment on remarks made by senior people in the company.
We also contacted Google but a spokesperson said they couldn't confirm any details at this time.
Google officially demoed its new OS in November and the scrabble to be the first to release it is now on.
Dell has released an experimental version for notebooks that users can download, after playing about with the system on one of its own Mini 10v notebooks.
Check out our first look at the Chrome OS here.

Litl cloud-based webbook
Readers might be interested in knowing that we at litl already have our cloud-based OS and webbook on the market (available at litl.com). ChromeOS and indeed all cloud-based OSs strengthen the case for using webapps, which has been said to be a major motivation for Google in developing ChromeOS. Our device is also tailored for webapps and streaming content, but we've designed our own UI specifically for home use and the things that families and friends do on the web at home. So we're quite different to ChromeOS. Come see us at litl.com.
