iPhone coming to Tesco next week
By Maggie Holland,
Tesco has confirmed that it will start selling the iPhone from December 14.
Users will be able to get their hands on one for as little as £20 a month thanks to Tesco Mobile's joint venture with O2. It will be available online via Tesco Direct and Tesco Phone shops.
There's further good news for iPhone fans disappointed by the tariffs and contract lengths on offer by O2 and Orange as Tesco will offer the handset on a 12 month contract.
Those who talk and text a lot will be able to get the 16GB iPhone 3GS for free on a £60 a month contract, while those looking to take advantage of the £20 a month tariff will have to shell out £222 up front for an iPhone 3G 8GB.
"iPhone is now available and affordable for all, with the best deals in the UK market," said Lance Batchelor, chief executive officer of Tesco Mobile and Tesco Telecoms, in a statement.
"This is a fantastic announcement for us and we’re delighted to make iPhone available to our customers. It shows what a serious player in the mobile market Tesco Mobile has become."
More details about the price plans on offer can be found here.
