Toshiba 64GB NAND flash

Toshiba is looking to significantly increase storage for portable devices with the release of its new 64GB NAND flash memory module.

The company claimed this was the biggest capacity module in the market. It is designed for a range of portable devices such as mobile phones, netbooks and digital video cameras.

The device combines sixteen 32GB NAND chips together with Toshiba's 32nm process technology and an integrated controller. A key aspect is the thinness, as the chips are only 30 micrometres thick.

A statement from the company said: “Demand continues to grow for embedded memories with a controller function that minimises development requirements and eases integration into system designs. Toshiba has established itself as an innovator in this key area.”

Samples of the 64GB are available immediately, with mass shipping beginning in the first quarter of 2010.
