    Sony Ericsson cuts 450 jobs

Mobile giant Sony Ericsson is carrying out its cost saving plans by cutting 450 jobs at its main product development site in Sweden.

Job cuts

Sony Ericsson has confirmed it will be cutting 450 jobs from its site in Lund, Sweden, as part of a long term strategy to reduce its headcount by 2,000.

This cut at its main product development centre takes out almost a sixth of the 3,000 workers at the site.

The company announced its initial plans to reduce the workforce to 7,900 employees by the middle of 2010 back in April due to losses in its first quarter caused by low sales and destocking.

This announcement was confirmed to the employees this week and will also see a further 200 consultants leaving the firm.

The job cuts are further bad news for the company which recently had one of its latest releases, the Satio handset, taken off the shelves at the Carphone Warehouse due to technical glitches in its software.

It claims to have fixed the problem with a firmware update but it was a knock the struggling company could have done without.
