The portable PC market may not be feeling festive with drops in revenues, but the rate of netbook growth has kept the sector going.

The netbook market has seen revenues rocket by 72 per cent in 2009, but the rest of the notebook market has felt the pinch.

So claims research from DisplaySearch, which has released its latest Advanced Quarterly Notebook PC Shipment and Forecast Report that shows revenues for the mini-notebooks hitting $11.4 billion (£7.1 billion), over 10 per cent of total revenues for the sector.

John F. Jacobs, director of notebook market research at the firm, said in a statement: “Mini-notes continue to be a significant piece of the notebook PC pie, in terms of both units and revenue.”

He added: “However, our long-term outlook is that the mini-note share of the notebook PC market has stabilised, and will remain at approximately 20 per cent through 2011 before starting to erode. “

It may be positive times for netbooks but the overall portable PC market has dropped by almost seven per cent to $109 billion and further falls are expected next year.
