Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2

Microsoft has confirmed the next version of its increasingly popular SQL database is set to be released in May this year.

In an announcement on its news blog, the company confirmed the SQL Server 2008 R2 will be added to Microsoft’s price list in May, but it has avoided confirming an exact date.

The new version will include support for high scale applications with up to 256 logical processors and improved support for virtualization and Live Migration through Hyper-V.

Hardware vendors will also release products with the software built in.

Microsoft first released SQL Server 2008 R2 to its MSDN and TechNet subscribers back in August 2009 to get feedback before the general release.
