Fujitsu is staking its claim on the name “iPad” and is looking to take on Apple for using it for its new tablet device.

The company’s version of the iPad is a touch screen mobile device used in retail to check prices and inventory.

It was made back in 2002 and sells mostly in the US however Fujitsu didn’t apply for the trademark until 2003 and still doesnt own it.

A statement from Fujitsu Frontech North America, the division responsible for the iPad, said: "Fujitsu Frontech North America is aware of Apple’s iPad announcement and the possible infringement on our trademark, which has been in use in connection with Fujitsu mobile retailing computer products since 2002."

"We are currently discussing our options with our trademark counsel and have no further comment at this time."

Apple unveiled the iPad tablet on Wednesday and has since received widespread media coverage and a lot of hype from Apple fans.

We contacted Apple for comment on the case but it hadn't responded to our request at the time of publication.
