Seagate starts shipping 6GB SAS drives
By Jennifer Scott,
Seagate is starting to ship its latest enterprise-level serial attached SCSI (SAS) drives this week, claiming they are an “industry first.”
The company has said its 3.5in Constellation ES drive is the first 2TB of its size on the market to feature 6GB SAS.
The drives, designed for 7200RPM multi-drive nearline storage environments, come in either 500GB, 1TB or 2TB with either the 6Gb/s SAS or 3Gb/s SATA alongside the company’s PowerChoice technology, for improved power and cooling optimisation.
Carla Kennedy, vice president of Seagate Enterprise Product Line Management, said in a statement: “Nearline is the fastest growing segment in enterprise storage and Seagate is committed to meeting the market demands of its OEM and system integrator partners in this space.”
There are also extra security options available which the company calls “government grade.”
“The Constellation ES drive tackles the concerns of shrinking IT budgets, floor space constraints and energy consumption, efficiently and cost-effectively,” she added.
