Vodafone slashes jobs
Vodafone is to cut 375 British jobs, as it continues its "streamlining" campaign, aimed at saving £1 billion. The losses are predominately in Berkshire, where a third of Vodafone's 9,000 UK jobs are located. IT PRO
Google headed to TV?
Google's Android operating system could be used to run set-top boxes from Disk Network. The plans would let users search for scheduled television programmes as well as online content. Wall Street Journal
BBC blocks third-party iPlayer apps
The BBC has blocked third-party iPlayer apps from accessing content, in a bid to protect copyrighted materials. The BBC didn't disclose exactly how the "loophole" was closed, but said it was to prevent the apps from breaking rules about how long the content was made available and whether it could be shown outside the UK. Asus unveils Eee PC 1005PR
Asus has revealed its latest addition to the Eee lineup, the 1005PR netbook. The headline feature is that the new netbook offers 720p High Definition. UK release dates or prices haven't yet been announced. Techwatch
Password backups not strong enough
A new report has claimed the personal questions asked by webmail and other online services when a user forgets their password aren't secure enough. Last names, pet names and places are too easy to guess, the researchers claimed. IT PRO
