    Conservatives promise 100Mbps in tech manifesto

The Conservative Party has made some bold promises putting tech at the heart of its election campaign.

The key policies include:

- giving people the right to request access to government data
- creating a 100Mbps network for "most"
- publish all spending over £25,000 for central government, and £500 for local governments
- encourage the use of open source IT
- have an in-house development team to create small apps, advise on larger projects
- make credit card providers send a data file on pricing for easy comparison
- publish names and salaries of highest paid civil servants
- create a smart energy grid, with smart meters in every home, and encourage alternative energy production
- create a system for Parliament called the Public Reading Stage, that lets the public can contribute to legislation
