Which? warns uses to be careful about roaming
By Maggie Holland,
Regulators need to apply data roaming caps on a worldwide basis to ensure that consumers and business travellers alike aren't stung with big bills when they venture outside Europe.
European data caps will come into effect at the beginning of July to protect users from the historically high and wide ranging tariffs in operation by networks when users roam. But they won't protect users if they venture further afield.
This needs to be addressed, according to consumer research group Which?
“Mobile phone companies should voluntarily take these very sensible steps and apply them on a worldwide basis," Matt Bath, technology editor and spokesman for Which? was reported as saying by the Times.
Until such a time, users should turn off data roaming or agree caps in advance with their networks, according to the advice Which? gave in the article on the newspaper's website.
