Toshiba has launched its latest 2.5in HDD, aimed at laptops.

The MK7559GSXP HDD has a 750GB capacity, which Toshiba claimed was the industry's highest capacity for a drive of this size, and runs at a speed of 5,400RPM.

The small 2.5in chassis, according to the company, is “well-suited for devices that value high capacity in a smaller footprint,” such as laptops, or as an external hard drive.

As well as offering a small form factor and high capacity, Toshiba claims the MK7559GSXP's energy consumption is 14 per cent lower than its previous products.

It keeps up its green credentials by using components that claim to “reduce reliance on harmful chemicals, materials and compounds.”

Toshiba has also launched the MK1059GSM, offering 1TB of storage over three platters.

This continues the move of HDD companies from 3.5in to 2.5in sizes when providing such high capacities. However, these drives are designed more for high-end gaming computers or workstations.

Both products are set to ship in spring but UK pricing has yet to be confirmed.
