Toshiba has launched the Tecra M11, its latest business laptop, with Intel's latest generation of mobile processors on board.

Replacing the Tecra M10, the new arrival shares its predecessor's conservative styling, as well as its solid, durable build.

Being business-focused, there's plenty of security too, including a fingerprint reader, advanced data encryption, robust password security options and a Computrace feature that tracks your laptop if it is stolen.Tecra M11

Under the surface, however, it's all change, with Intel's i3 and i5 low-power processors running the show and ensuring prolonged battery life. Specifically, there's a choice between the Core i3-330M, the i5-430M or the i5-520M, which can be coupled with 2GB or 3GB of RAM and a middle-of-the-road 320GB hard drive.

The M11 features a 14in LED-backlit display, complete with webcam, while graphics are taken care of either by the on-board Intel HD engine, or the optional Nvidia NVS 2100M. Neither is particularly suited to graphics-intensive tasks, but should be up to the task for business needs plus the occasional DVD.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a scattering of USB ports, an eSATA port and a mini-DisplayPort socket for hooking the M11 up to a high-definition TV.

On top of the energy-efficient Intel processors, Toshiba has also thrown in an Eco Utility, which tracks battery use and keeps you updated on just how much power you're saving through the various energy modes.

The Tecra M11 starts at $899 for the base i3 model and up to $1,229 for the i5-430M, the more expensive of the i5 pair. Configuration options allow you to up the RAM as high as 8GB, or upgrade to an Intel i7 processor - though for considerable extra cost. All models come with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on board.

There's no word yet on when Toshiba will be bringing the Tecra M11 to the UK, nor how much it will cost when it arrives on these shores.
