Week in Review: Fighting, Flash and farewell to floppy
By Tom Brewster,
Apple and Adobe exchange insults
The war of words between Adobe and Apple went into overdrive this week, with Steve Jobs putting in his two cents via a blog post on why he has such an aversion to Flash.
Unsurprisingly, the chief executive of Adobe hit back a day later, calling Jobs’ comments a “smokescreen”.
Outside of upsetting various sections of the tech sector, Apple has announced the date of its Worldwide Developers Conference, with rumours that it will unveil the next iPhone at the event.
Good old Google
Adobe lovers will be pleased to hear Google, which was this week ranked as the most valuable brand in the world, said the next version of its Android mobile OS will feature full support for Flash.
Google’s Nexus One device has also now been made available on Vodafone.
Elsewhere in the smartphone world, Palm was acquired for a whopping $1.2 billion by HP, surprising many.
Best of the rest
Not only did Gordon Brown make the PR gaff of the election campaign with bigotgate, a Labour candidate leaked the results of her area’s postal vote via Twitter and could now face criminal charges.
It was not the only scandal of the week though, as police raided a Gizmodo editor’s home looking for photos of a prototype Apple iPhone.
And finally, Sony decided to kill off the floppy disk, ceasing manufacturing from March 2011. We will miss it greatly… kind of.
