Vodafone is set to introduce a new charging plan for customers who go over their data limits.

Referred to as “Out of Bundle charging,” the mobile operator has set prices for any extra data used in what it calls an attempt to “keep customers in control of their spend.”

As of 1 June, monthly bundle customers will have to pay £5 for every 500MB they use after the first 500MB, whilst those without a bundle will be charged 50 pence for every 10MB they go after an initial 25MB.

A member of the eForum team at Vodafone known only as Tom wrote a statement on the website which read: “The reason we're introducing these charges is to make it fairer for everyone, and to protect our network from data abuse.”

He also confirmed Vodafone would inform customers when they were approaching their initial data cap to try and stop them going over.

However, with the likes of the iPhone, HTC Desire and other high-end smartphones available on the network, a lot of users could end up with some pretty hefty charges.
