AMD has unveiled a refresh of its notebook and desktop platforms based on the company’s Vision Technology, which was launched just last year.

Included in the new offerings are the AMD 2010 Notebook Platforms in both Mainstream and Ultra-thin formats. The former is mainly entertainment-focused, but AMD said the chips make it simpler to connect on social networks as well as edit videos and photos.

With the latter, users can experience HD playback and what the manufacturer described as “a full-featured PC experience”.

While they are designed to enhance the entertainment experience, AMD said its notebook platforms can help push productivity forward in the workplace and provide support for the virtualisation and security capabilities that businesses are looking for.

The new desktop options also have a heavy emphasis on multimedia. The platforms can organise digital photo libraries 40 per cent quicker than competing desktop PCs, using facial recognition during the categorisation process, according to AMD.

“With Vision Technology from AMD, we are finally connecting how people use their PCs with the way people purchase them,” said Nigel Dessau, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of AMD, in a statement.

“After little more than 200 days in market, our partners are introducing more Vision-based PCs than ever before; a testament to both the competitiveness of AMD platform technology and the simplified marketing approach,” Dessau added.

Both notebook and desktop platforms have been launched today and will be available for the rest of the year from big hardware players including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo.

Acer has already unveiled its Aspire range featuring 2010 VISION Technology with new AMD Phenom II Quad-Core Mobile processors for fast performance and smooth multitasking capabilities. Earlier today, the company also released a host of new systems featuring AMD technology.
