Blue Coat launches DLP for unified protection

Blue Coat's DLP appliances aim to make business data protection simpler to manage and more flexible to deal with regulation shifts.

Blue Coat Systems has launched its new lineup of data loss prevention (DLP) solutions offering firms the ability to deal with threats through a unified management system.

IT teams will be able to analyse and improve data protection policies through its easily comprehendible management system, according to Blue Coat.

DLP appliances can be up and running in one day or less, meaning tools such as policy definition, content fingerprinting, incident analysis and traffic inspection can be set up quickly.

Users can configure key functions at an early stage and then add more functionality over time, allowing companies to have high priority areas covered first.

For global firms seeking flexibility, the DLP solutions support most common languages and can access more than 600 document types.

The DLP appliances will be made available on 30 June in three different models, supporting up to 250, 5,000 or 20,000 users. List prices will start at $12,000 (£8,080).

Bob Hansmann, senior product marketing manager at Blue Coat Systems, told IT PRO that customers have been expressing concerns over the numerous business areas that need to be covered by a data protection solution, particularly in environments where regulations shift frequently.

Solutions that only tackle one or two areas of a business are not flexible enough, he added.

“The plain and simples may plug a hole in the dyke but pretty soon you’re going to have to get something else to plug other holes as you only have so many fingers. It’s just not a long-term solution,” Hansmann said.

He also spoke of the importance of flexibility, claiming that the Blue Coat DLP appliances offer this and, in turn, scalability.

Other recent additions to the data protection world include Panda Security’s Cloud Anti-virus Pro Edition and three new protection technologies in Sophos’s Endpoint Security and Data Protection 9.5 services lineup.
