More than 60 security updates have been applied to the iPhone with the introduction of the new OS, which is pretty impressive as it was one of the more secure smartphone operating systems anyway
Many of the security improvements in iPhone OS 4.0 include the Safari browser and WebKit, mostly the management of malicious websites and images.
In previous incarnations of the firmware, viewing or opening up a malicious web page or image could result in application termination or arbitrary code execution. Updates to the iPhone’s firmware include checking and validating images and memory management.
Apple has also corrected issues using remote lock and MobileMe security features.
Previously, if someone locked their device using the remote lock feature in MobileMe, the iPhone would remember the code in its memory next time Remote Lock was used.
Apple has now rectified this issue by clearing the pass code and checking the device’s lock state more regularly.
