Overheating

Two ranges of Sony VAIOs are at risk of overheating and need updating with new firmware, according to the manufacturer.

The F and C series laptops are vulnerable to a flaw in the internal temperature management system and Sony has already received almost 40 complaints where the machine has warped due to the heat.

Specific models affected are the VPCF11 and VPCCW2.

The company has released a BIOS firmware update for both versions and is recommending a quick install to “prevent the potential overheating.”

In a letter to its customers, published on the Sony website, the company said: “We take the quality of the products we sell very seriously and make every effort to ensure that the products we develop meet your expectations.”

It added: “We sincerely apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”

The VPCF11 series update is available here.

The VPCCW2 series update is available here.
