Another company is leaping into the market with an Android tablet, but what will that mean for its Windows-based attempt?

LG has confirmed it will be launching a tablet based on Google’s Android operating system.

Although details about the device are still quite sparse, the company has said it will be running version 2.2 of the popular OS and wants the device to be ready in time for the Christmas rush.

However, questions are now being raised as to what will happen to it its UX10 tablet, which was unveiled at Computex last month.

The Microsoft-based device may have been at a mature prototype stage, but with HP ditching its Windows 7 Slate in favour of a webOS device, its fate may hang in the balance.

The launch of the Apple iPad in April, and its subsequent success, has led a number of manufacturers to jump on the tablet bandwagon.

Dell has released the Streak, Cisco has announced the Cius and a number of other manufacturers from Asus to Nokia are working on their own rivals.

Analyst firm IDC has claimed the portable devices may make an impact, but won’t take over from the traditional laptop form factor.
